Basecamp adventuring in the Adirondack High Peaks
A welcoming introduction to the rugged wilderness of upstate New York.
Trip Length 6 Days Group Size 4-15 People Activity Camping, Hiking, Canoeing, Rock Climbing Intensity Level 3/5
Trip Highlights
The High Peaks Region in NY’s Adirondack Mountains is home to some of the best adventure on the east coast. Founded in 1892, the park predates all of our National Parks except Yellowstone, Sequoia, and Yosemite. It’s “Forever Wild“ designation in the NY constitution significantly impacted the conservation movement. We’ll visit some of its greatest treasure, renowned as well as off the beaten path.
From a comfortable campsite nestled in the heart of the High Peaks, complete with plumbing, showers, and fire rings for s’mores, we’ll set off on daily adventures. Hiking to remote lakes, up peaks, and trying our hand at rock climbing. For an overnight excursion, we’ll head across the fabled St Regis Canoe Area for a paddle to a remote campsite to hear to the call of the loons.

Itinerary
Welcome to the High Peaks
Passing Chapel Pond as you arrive in the High Peaks, you’ll know you’re in for something special. We’ll set up camp in our canvas tents with bunks for comfort and set out for a short hike to stretch our legs and soak up some epic views before your guides prepare dinner.
Hiking: 2.3 miles, 2 hours; elevation gain: 650'
Dinner Included
Avalanche Pass
After an early breakfast, we’ll hit the trail for a long day of hiking over relatively flat ground. Our route takes us out to a scenic lake deep in the backcountry where we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch. Naturalist conversations about the geology, flora, and fauna pass the time as we trek back to camp for dinner around the fire.
Hiking: 10 miles, 8 hours; elevation gain: 1,335’
All Meals Included
Life on the Rocks
A leisurely start to the day lets us fill up before heading out to rope up and try rock climbing in an area with routes suitable for all levels, beginner to expert. Supporting each other, overcoming challenges, and celebrating success is the name of the game before we return for an afternoon of relaxing and swimming.
Rock Climbing: 4 hrs
All Meals Included
The Alpine Zone
It’s up early again and up into the alpine zone, the peak zone above treeline. We’ll take it slow on our journey upwards passing a waterfall before reaching Wright Peak, one of the fabled 46rs named for the 46 peaks over 4’600 feet in the Adirondacks. Views from our perch above Avalanche Pass are some of the area’s best.
Hiking: 7 miles, 8 hours; elevation gain: 2,580'
All Meals Included
St Regis Wilderness Canoe Area
After breakfast, we’ll pack up for a new adventure! We’ll carry camp with us as we use canoes to access a remote area. The water will do the work as we only have to carry our packs for the portages between ponds. Evening in our remote site will offer swimming, games, a campfire and dinner serenaded by the call of the loons, an unusual animal that looks like a duck but sounds much different.
Canoeing: 4 hours
All Meals Included
Paddle Out
After an easy morning soaking up the serenity, we’ll paddle out, catch last showers back at our central campsite, and hit the road full of memories, new friends, and a sense of outdoor confidence that comes from experience with a wide range of adventure activities.
Canoeing: 4 hours
